Privacy policy

Foreword is built so that your story stays yours. This page explains what the app does with your information.

What we don't do

Usage statistics

The app sends us usage statistics that don't identify you, such as which practice was opened or which feature was tapped, so we can see which parts of Foreword people use. Events are tied to a random id for your install, not to you, and never include your words, recordings, name or story. We keep them for up to 2 years.

Where your content lives

Your story, pages, recordings, practice history and settings are stored on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account. We don't keep your content on our servers. Settings → Start over → Erase everything removes it from your device and your iCloud.

When content leaves your device

Some features send content to a service provider so a result can be made for you. It's sent only to produce that result, isn't linked to an account (you don't have one), and isn't used for advertising.

Each provider also handles data under its own terms and privacy policy. We pass requests through our own service over encrypted connections, so providers don't receive your device's network address.

Limits and abuse prevention

To apply plan limits and prevent abuse, we keep limited counts of how much audio is rendered, which don't identify you, tied to your subscription's Apple transaction id or a random id for your install. These records contain nothing you wrote or recorded, and we delete them on a regular schedule (within 90 days).

Your voice sample

If you record a sample of your voice, it's stored on your device and in your personal iCloud until you delete it or erase the app's data. It's used only to render audio in your voice when you ask for it. We don't use it to identify you. You can delete it at any time in Settings, which stops any further renders in your voice. Loops you've already made keep their audio.

Microphone and speech recognition

The microphone is used only when you tap to record or dictate. Morning pages are transcribed on your phone. When you speak your story, Apple's speech recognition turns it into text, on your phone or on Apple's servers depending on your device. Recordings stay on your device and in your iCloud unless you ask for something in your voice.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple, and we never see your payment details. To confirm your subscription is active before a paid render, the app sends us Apple's signed record of it, which includes a transaction id, the plan and its dates, but no name, email or payment details.

On this website

This site collects anonymous usage statistics, such as page views and taps on the download button, using a random id stored in your browser. It sets no cookies and has no advertising or third-party analytics.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask to see or delete what we hold about you by emailing hello@goforeword.app. We aim to reply within 30 days.

Most of your data lives on your phone and in your iCloud, not with us: deleting the app removes it from your phone, and Settings → Start over → Erase everything removes it from your phone and your iCloud. What we hold is anonymous and tied to random ids, so we usually can't find it from a request; it's deleted on the schedules above.

We don't sell or share your personal information. If you live in California, you have these rights too, and we won't treat you differently for using them.

Foreword is made by Floppy LLC, a California company, which is responsible for this data.

If you're in the EU or the UK: we process your content to provide what you ask for (performance of a contract) and keep usage and limit counts to run and protect the service (legitimate interests). Our service providers are in the United States, so your content may be processed there, under contracts that protect it. Because what we hold doesn't identify you, we may not be able to act on some requests unless you can give us more information. If you're not happy with how we handled a request, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Foreword is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used Foreword, email us and we'll delete what we can.

Where the law requires it, currently in some US states, the app asks Apple for the age range your Apple Account has declared, such as 13 to 17, never your birthdate. We use it only to keep Foreword to people 13 and over. It stays on your device and is never sent to us or anyone else. Parents can control this in Settings, Apple Account, Personal Information, Age Range for Apps.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. Questions: hello@goforeword.app.
